Mumbai’s day could have gone sour very fast after Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck. But it became the platform for a hero who emerged unexpectedly. The 28-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Hardik Tamore helped Mumbai post an impressive total against Uttarakhand with a match-defining performance during the Vijay Hazare Trophy on December 26, 2025.

Opening the innings with a flailing Mumbai team, Tamore batted with a level of maturity that was not commensurate with the situation. He batted with the required finesse and scored a brilliant 93 runs off 82 balls. This ensured that when he returned to the pavilion, his team was in recovery with a commendable score of 331 runs for 7 wickets.

Who is Hardik Tamore?

Born on 19 October 1997 in Thane, Maharashtra, Tamore has come into limelight for his excellent domestic cricket in Mumbai. A right-handed batsman with an aggressive playing style and skilful wicketkeeper, he has been his teammate for many in domestic Mumbai, West Zone and playing for several Mumbai-based franchises Akash Tigers and Shivaji Park Lions. He may not have grabbed the headlines many times, but his teammates are well aware of his importance.

Lookalike of ‘Hitman’

Ironically, what was equally interesting was that the Internet looked at Tamore for another reason, and that was because of his similarity with Rohit Sharma. When a picture of his first match against Sikkim was circulated online, fans were jokingly calling him Rohit’s “look-alike”.

However, when it comes to actual performance on the cricket field, Tamore was on point in all his innings. With contributions from the likes of Musheer Khan and Sarfaraz Khan scoring half-centuries, he managed to rebuild the innings. However, in the end he changed his gear as well as his ability to hit fours and sixes. His innings was strengthened by a 95-run partnership with Shams Mulani.

Tamor’s own arc has never been about working in the fast lane. Since his List A debut in 2020, he has been Mumbai’s trouble-shooter, performing well in difficult times. When he played against Uttarakhand, he not only saved his team’s innings but also reminded us all of one thing: Mumbai’s strength goes beyond its heroes.
