Laura Harris performed brilliantly in the third match of the ongoing Women’s Super Smash in Otago. She equaled the world record of the fastest half-century in women’s T20 cricket. The explosive batsman scored a half-century in just 15 balls and became the first batsman to equal Mary Kelly, who achieved the same milestone for Warwickshire against Gloucestershire in 2022.
This innings proved to be a turning point in Harris’s career, as she struggled in the Women’s Big Bash League with Sydney Thunder scoring only 69 runs in her first eight matches, although this came with an impressive strike rate of 197.14. Harris made his impact felt from the very first match when Otago took on Northern Brave in the first match of the Super Smash held at Molineux Park in Alexandra.

This was not the first time that Harris had come close to this historical site. Earlier this year, the 35-year-old almost achieved the record when she scored a 16-ball half-century for Warwickshire in the Vitality Blast, but missed her target. During the event, Harris scored 55 runs from 21 balls against Durham, while he was declared player of the match.
