A gunman opened fire on two women inside and outside an Idaho sheriff’s office on Friday, wounding three people before being killed by law enforcement, the Shoshone County Sheriff said.
Shoshone County Sheriff William Eddy said the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace, and the suspect was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m.
The officer and two women suffered minor injuries in the incident, AD said. As of Friday evening, information was still preliminary, he said.
Eddy described one bullet as “just scratching” the ear of the officer who was hit, and said he believed two women were shot in the leg.
At that time the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office was open to the public.
“The suspect entered the lobby of the sheriff’s office and began shooting,” Eddy said at a news conference.
The suspect’s name was not publicly released Friday evening.
The two women were sitting in a pickup parked outside the sheriff’s office when the gunman fired a shot through the windshield, hitting both of them in the leg, Eddy said. One woman was in the front seat and the other was in the back seat, he said.
Police and the FBI, along with other nearby agencies, also responded to the incident, Eddy said.
The investigation into the shooting continued Friday and Eddy said further details about the timeline of events were not immediately clear.
Wallace is a small town of about 800 people in northern Idaho, about 80 miles east of Spokane, Washington.
