Virat Kohli, known as the “King” of contemporary cricket, has added another badge to his already illustrious cap with a brilliant innings of 77 runs for Delhi against Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bengaluru yesterday. With this innings at the BCCI Center of Excellence, Kohli broke former Australian batsman Michael Bevan’s record of becoming the batsman with the highest average in the List A format who had played at least 5,000 innings. Kohli’s List A average is now 57.87, surpassing Michael Bevan’s previous record of 57.86, a record that stood for several decades.

In the opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kohli scored 131 runs against Andhra Pradesh and helped Delhi chase the target of 299 runs easily. During this innings, he became the fastest man to score 16,000 runs in men’s List-A cricket, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, achieving the milestone in just 330 innings compared to Tendulkar’s 391.
